Dog training is not only an art, but it's also a science. Here at Hira's Legacy, we offer private lessons for anyone interested in learning how to adequately and efficiently train their dog. During the first lesson, I will cover my training philosophies and principles, which includes the four quadrants of operant conditioning, the science behind teaching your dog any command, the four different types of dog training, and how to develop full reliability in any command regardless of the environmental distractions. My private lessons are so effective that most pet owners on average need only 1-3 private lessons to train their dog to the level they desire. I guarantee you will love showing off your newly trained dog to all your friends.
Private training can be focused on anything from basic obedience to competition training.

STAY AND TRAIN
This program is designed to help dogs reach their full potential with a clear path to success. A dog enrolled in this program will be given the tools necessary to acquire the behaviors that we desire of them without any conflict. This process can be broken down into four main steps. When the program is completed, I guarantee results and satisfaction. The program includes one private lesson per each week.
CANINE GOOD CITIZEN TESTING
Hira's Legacy offers the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation, which helps to promote responsible dog ownership and the proper education of canine owners. The dog, plus its handler, takes a behavioral evaluation test that lasts less than half an hour. The dog who passes will earn the Canine Good Citizen title, which can be added after the dog's name (Fluffy, CGC). Talk to us about scheduling your exam once you are confident in your dog's abilities.
CGC test is included with any private lesson.
The first level involves teaching your dog proper engagement. I will show the dog where, when and how rewards will be placed. This is also when the communication channels are shown to the dog, which is the backbone of the dog’s success for the remainder of the training. One of the first things I’ll work on is luring, which will get your dog to begin obeying basic desired commands such as ‘sit’ and ‘down.' I will also introduce the dog to chasing, which is a process that’s naturally fun for dogs and will motivate your dog to train further and achieve greater desired goals with little to no conflict.
This level your dog will be shaped to understand and assume all of the desired positions. Through using the foundational tools established during the first tier (engagement and communication), I can begin to teach your dog all of the behaviors that you’d like your dog to know. I will do it in such a way that your dog will feel that entering a position is a fun thing to do, and your dog will feel encouraged to want to learn. During this stage, your dog is allowed to make mistakes, which helps with the training process as it makes the dog more willing to try new behaviors (and receive the rewards they are working for).
This is the level when I begin to teach your dog stability in each position, which involves teaching the very important ‘stay’ command. This training ensures that your dog will learn to retain and hold each directed position. This is also the point where we begin to add distractions, such as toys and other dogs, so that they learn to stay in place no matter what stimuli they’re exposed to. During this level, I would also start to practice with your dog all of the commands from a distance, which is also known as doing change of position exercises. I do this because dogs are very situational and they would otherwise only obey commands that are up close, because it’s what they’re used to. This way, a command can be applied from any distance or position; creating greater reliability and obedience.
The main goal of this level is proofing and honesty training. It’s around this time that a lot of dogs start trying to predict their training routines and patterns, so it’s necessary to switch it up, add new distractions, and change the environments to ensure your dog understands how to obey all of the commands regardless of the situation. This is how I make sure that all of the training lasts, and that your dog remains confident even in different types of environments or situations.
